First day of interviews!

It's still hard to imagine that 2 weeks ago the WLW podcast hadn't even been thought of and all of a sudden I am here, preparing for my first interviews with inspiring people who have a great story to tell.

Since arriving back from my family holiday, I have poured every minute of free time into getting things ready, learning how to launch a podcast and trying to keep up with all the thoughts racing in my mind. With every task I complete, it feels a little like I discover two more things I need to do, but the experience and process is something I am enjoying a lot.

The search for perfection

I won't lie, I want EVERYTHING for the podcast to be perfect. This includes the sound quality, asking the right questions, making sure my guests are comfortable and enjoy the experience, making sure the logo and branding look professional... The list goes on.

What I have to keep reminding myself though is that this is a new journey for me and the best way to improve is by doing. It's like this with many things in life, weight loss included. As much as we would like to wake up from one day to the next having shifted all those kilos and pounds we want to disappear, the only way it can happen is by turning up every day and putting the work in. The podcast is no different.

I am coming to realise that it will take months, if not years to master the art of podcasting so I may as well enjoy the experience. Each episode will be an opportunity to learn something new and make small improvements for the next one.

Overall Progress so far

Although I feel like there are still hundreds of things to do (27 to be exact, looking at my things to do list next to me), it's also good to stop and appreciate what has been accomplished in such a short amount of time. 14 days to be exact, with a week long family holiday in the middle.

My wins:

  • Discovered a podcast project I truly feel passionate about creating

  • Signed up to a short course on how to be create a podcast

  • Mapped out an entire launch process to go live asap

  • Created an Instagram account and grown it to 275 followers

  • Created a website to document my journey and as a home for podcast episodes

  • Found 20 amazing people who are willing to share their story

  • Decided on and signed up to all the required software/services I need to launch

Next Steps on the Podcast Journey

As the title indicates, today I will jump into my first interviews that will become the offical launching episodes of the podcast. I feel extremely lucky to have met the people I'll be speaking to today. They have a truly inspirational story to share and I am 100% convinced it will help others on a similar journey. I also think it will be a lot of of fun to speak with them and learn more about their success

Following that, I have some more interviews planned for later in the week. I'm trying to ensure I have enough content to reduce the panic or stress of not being able to stick to my ambitious plan of 2 new episodes a week.

Then, the new challenge of post production, editing, uploading, submitting to Apple, Spotify, Google (which in itself creates a feeling of imposter syndrome. I mean, why would a giant like Apple let little old me have a podcast on their platform?!) and then ensuring everything is ready to hit the PUBLISH button next Monday.

Last thoughts

It's a slightly daunting, nerve racking experience and I am constantly facing uncertainty, doubt and a feeling that I should leave this whole thing to the "experts"

However, I'm also finding that each time I think about my "why" and the potential to support others by providing a helpful and entertaining way to reach their goals, the negative energy subsides and I realise I'm actually quite looking forward to the adventure!

Launch date: 5th September - Hold on to your hats, we're actually doing this!
